Roswell-based Handcrafted Homes, Inc., an award-winning residential construction and remodeling firm, has won two CotY (Contractor of the Year) Awards from the Atlanta chapter of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), as well as an OBIE from the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association. These represent the firm’s 12th and 13th Atlanta CotY Awards and the fifth OBIE.
“It is extremely gratifying for our company to receive both the CotY and OBIE awards, since these awards are judged and given by our professional peers,” said Judy Mozen, president of Handcrafted Homes, Inc. “We are extremely proud of the winning projects. In fact, we put two of them on the annual NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes so the public could see the beautiful transformations that were achieved in each of the homes.”
The first CotY Award was given in the category of Residential Bath Over $100,000 for a remodeling project in Buckhead. The home’s original bath was poorly-designed and did not meet the homeowner’s needs. Handcrafted Homes, Inc. gutted the space and, by incorporating square footage from an adjacent spare bedroom, created an open, light-filled bathroom with his and her marble-topped vanities, a state-of-the art shower with multiple shower heads, a toilet ensconced in a private area and a walk-in closet. The focal point of the bathroom is an upholstered window seat with remote-controlled window blinds above and storage underneath.
The second CotY was awarded in the category of Basement Remodel Over $100,000. This Roswell project was recently open to the public for the 2015 NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes, and was a very popular stop on the tour. What had been dark, unfinished space was transformed by Handcrafted Homes into a relaxing retreat with a large picture window overlooking a new backyard terrace. Highlights include a stone fireplace, stand-behind bar and an open staircase. The Terrace Level now also features a child’s playroom, exercise room, guest bedroom and bathroom.
A second basement remodeling project by Handcrafted Homes, Inc. received a Gold OBIE for a Basement Remodel Over $75,000. This home is located near Atlanta’s Chastain Park, and was featured on the 2014 NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes. The company designed and built a terrace-level entertainment area from previously unused space. The central space with its bar and game table is visible from the under-stair wine cellar and media room. The bar includes a sink, dishwasher, ice maker and refrigerator, with a TV above the bar. Custom cabinets were crafted from pecan wood, while the curved bar surround was created from walnut grown on the homeowner’s farm. The dramatic bar top is made from pewter.
